Aprils fools special

By Joel Gratz on March 27, 2012

Sometimes the weather pattern is more predictable. Sometimes it’s less predictable. For next Sunday into Monday, I’ll call the weather pattern “becoming more predictable”. While the computer models are all showing different forecasts, they all agree that cooler air and some snow will hit Colorado late Sunday into Monday.

Here are four computer model forecasts for Sunday night at 6pm. The European (ECMWF) model is usually the most accurate at 5-7 days out, but don’t discount the others. Colorado is highlighted in a black box, and the blue line shows the leading edge of the cooler and stormier air. The European shows a weaker storm (the blue line doesn’t dip down too far to the south), while the American (GFS) model and the US Navy’s model (NOGAPS) show a stronger storm. The Canadian is much slower than the other models and weaker as well. So, who will win??
