Season Greetings

Summary

Well November is here and this would ideally be a great time to start talking snow. Let's just get this out of the way right now....no snow on the horizon (next 15 days or so). As far as I know AZSB is still moving ahead with an opening date of 11/10...obviously with man made snow on limited terrain.

Short Term Forecast

We have been plagued with an extended dry spell going back now 36 some days to the last light precip that fell on 9/27. Moving into record dry territory for the Sept-Current time period.

Extended Forecast

As I am sure you are aware there is a good chance for a weak La Nina set up once again this winter. Typically this does not favor a productive snow season for us as there will likely be fewer storms. The storm track during these seasons statistically favors more northerly latitudes and the NOAA winter outlook reflects this. The 3 month (Dec-Feb) temp outlook has us at ~50% probability of warmer than average temperatures...nothing new here, it's the way of the world, right.

3 month temperature probability

The 3 month (Dec-Feb) precipitation outlook has us in a 33-40% chance of drier than normal conditions.

This all being laid out just as it was last year for a weak La Nina setup. We all know that the table turned in our favor last year and we beat the odds. Let's hope that happens again...just not starting off strong. Here is to hoping that the old weather saying, "the longer it waits, the heavier it comes" holds true.

I am anxious to have some good news for us soon...you will hear it here first.

Think SNOW!
