I know you are all going to give my grief about making a “Final Post” last month but it’s really happening again so grab your gear and get ready for some fresh snow that is going to impact most mountain locations of the West!

Cold temperatures and lowering snow levels will bring highlights to many areas of the West! Other highlights include New England scoring overnight Powder last weekend (9 inches at Mount Snow).

My initial picks this week are the Wasatch, Southern Montana, Central Idaho (Northern Sawtooths) and most of north central Colorado near the Front Range. Many of these areas will grab late May storm totals in the 10-15 inch range at the highest elevations by early Thursday. Some spots in southern Montana perhaps near Red Mountain Lodge as well as north/central Wyoming could see 2 feet.

The Sierra is playing a wildcard with a piece of energy that swings through Monday/Tuesday. Models show light snow up north with perhaps 6 inches or more at the highest peaks near Mammoth by late tonight. That’s speculation at this point with a sure bet of 2-4 inches with some models showing more.

There are still more than a handful of resorts still open! Consider Timberline Lodge in Oregon for Tuesday/Wednesday (Whistler-wildcard), backcountry in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, or wait for the lifts to turn at Snowbird on Friday. I believe that A-Basin in Colorado may be a solid player for Thursday/Friday! Mammoth could grab a sleeper pow today and tonight. Squaw could deliver a tease today or tonight.

While most of us have hung up our winter gear, I am laying it out again for perhaps one last faceshot of the season. It's not uncommon to see snowfall in the Rockies at this time of year, but it's rare to see snow levels plunge to pass levels especially in Washington and Oregon (4,500 foot snow levels Tuesday) at this time of year. It’s also rare to see snowfall in the Salt Lake Valley in late May.

Snow will most likely be falling in the upper benches of the Salt Lake Valley while the higher passes of Parleys near Park City will be snow packed on Wednesday.

Here are a few maps of total snowfall through Thursday. This is it! I promise, no more detailed chase forecasts this season! Next season will be deep somewhere with my 100% guarantee!
