SNOW AND COLDER TEMPERATURES IN THE FORECAST FOR THE ROCKIES! 1-2 FEET POSSIBLE IN IN MONTANA
Summary
1-2 week models are showing a trend for colder temperatures and a decent size system impacting interior Canada before slowly moving over much of the Rockies late this weekend into next week. Several waves of low pressure are moving in from Canada bringing an increased chance of snowfall for most interior Canada, and the Rockies in the next several days. Models hint at a continued chance of snow in the extended. Deep snow is very likely Sunday-Tuesday for the northern 1/3 of Montana. Light or Moderate snow is likely in areas to the south including Wyoming and Colorado through Tuesday.
Short Term Forecast
In the last week many western resorts saw their first snows of the season, with a few locations getting dumped with 1-2 feet. The next several weeks could bring a continued trend for additional systems to impact the Pacific Northwest and especially the northern Rockies. Models are only somewhat accurate in the 7 day maps below with more variance beyond that period. Currently we are confident on colder temperatures for much of the Northern and central Rockies as well as occasional low pressure systems impacting the West in the next 5 days. Significant snowfall is likely in northern Montana over the next several days as well as interior Canada (1-2 feet possible).
The west will once again be in a cool, wet pattern that could last through the middle of October. Two troughs will impact the region over the next 10 days, both bringing chances for high elevation snow. The first system will move in this weekend and the second likely toward the middle/end of next week.

Below: Total possible snowfall for higher elevations of the west through October 9th (Variance to models this far out will exist). Amounts will be fine tuned with each additional posts. Image: Weatherbell
Extended Forecast
After the deep snows in northern Montana early next week models differ on exact timing and tracks of additional but weaker systems that move into the Rockies.
