Update Wednesday at 6pm

Update Wednesday at 6pm

Most areas saw little to no snow on Wednesday, though mountains close to and east of the divide, like Eldora and Winter Park, did pick up a few inches.

The one big surprise is Breckenridge, which has 5-6 inches on the snow stake as I write this. I'm having a very hard time coming up with an explanation for why Breck received this much snow, as the other resorts nearby (Copper, Keystone, Abasin, Loveland) only received about an inch of snow. Breckenridge actually sits south of the other resorts I mentioned, so perhaps they received a bit more upper-level energy to lift the the air, and this combined with enough moisture pushing over the divide just to their southeast to create snow? Hmm, it's a tough one to explain, and definitely the current weather situation is not one where I would expect Breck to be the winner. I'll keep digging into the data and will write about anything else I find on Thursday morning when I post the next full update.

For the rest of Wednesday night, expect a few inches at Monarch and Wolf Creek, with another inch or two of snow along I-70 east of Vail Pass, ending by around midnight.
