Colorado Daily Snow

Heads up, there may be fresher snow! Read the latest Colorado Daily Snow

Good morning! Three things to talk about today...

1) The site looks different - do you like it?

+ The look & feel is a bit "lighter" and the site should be a bit faster, too. Let's call it an "iPhone 5 type update":-) We think the site works pretty well, but wanted to tighten things up a bit and make sure the most important aspects were right in front of you. Plus this now sets us up to release some awesome new features in the coming months as we improved a lot of the backend code that's invisible to you but makes things much easier for us to work with.

+ BIG NEWS is that we added comment/discussion areas on each Daily Snow post and also for each mountain location. Please post updates and pictures about snow (is it snowing? how's the snow? etc) and let's get the conversation going! Our forum area is good for this as well, but we wanted to bring the discussion to you and to the pages you visit most often.

+ We added a "News" section where we'll be posting articles throughout the season.

+ You'll see official Winter Storm Watches, Advisories, and Warnings on each mountain's page below the forecast. Don't see them now? That's because (sadly) there are no Watches/Advisories/Warnings. These are issued by the National Weather Service.

+ We have a great mobile site as well! Just head to opensnow.com on your mobile phone and things look great. (and yes, we're working on apps, but these take more time and are more expensive compared to building a great-looking mobile site).

+ Let us know if you see any issues with the new layout or have suggestions! Get in touch: [email protected]

2) A weak storm will bring a few inches of snow on Tuesday night

While most of the storm energy will stay to our north this week, one piece of storm energy will dip far enough south to bring snow and colder air to Colorado on Tuesday night. The snow will be heaviest in the northern mountains along the divide (Cameron Pass, Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, Winter Park, Abasin, Loveland) but some flakes should fly along I-70 as well, and we could even see a dusting further south around Aspen and the San Juans. The mostly likely time for snow will start around 9pm on the CO/WY border through about 3am-6am down toward the San Juans. By Wednesday morning at sunrise, the snow will be gone but most of the state will feel a lot chillier than 12 hours prior.

This image shows the storm to our north with just enough energy hitting Colorado for some light snow on Tuesday night.

3) "Something" is going to happen next week

I've been saying this for days now, but it still appears that Colorado will see a storm or two next week, between the 22nd and 26th, ish. The models have been bouncing around so I have little confidence about specifics, but the weather should be more interesting next week than it is this week, and it's always fun to have something to look forward to, right?!

PS - test out the comment/discussion area below! Who will open first: Loveland or Abasin? Or will it be a tie?
