Heaviest snow Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon

Quick post this morning as I am heading to south Denver all day to talk to a bunch of classes about science, snow, and climate. Fun!

No big changes to the forecast:

Thursday will offer afternoon showers and storms, mostly along and north of I-70, and heaviest east of the divide.

Friday will be similar to Thursday, but with more afternoon showers for all mountains.

Saturday and Sunday is when our weekend storm cranks up. All mountains will see an increase in precipitation, and snow levels will drop to most valley bottoms with the plains east of the divide also seeing snow. The coldest air and heaviest precipitation will likely occur Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon, and with the May sun angle, Sunday morning will likely be the best time to see accumulating snow and ski powder (before the sun is higher in the sky and increases temperatures, even though there are clouds). If you're heading into the backcountry, start doing research and planning now as the snowpack has undergone a lot of changes over the last week, and there will be more changes and loading over the weekend! Snowfall amounts on Saturday night through Sunday could be well over 10 inches for the northern and central mountains, with 10-20 inches possible above maybe 10,000 feet along and east of the divide, along and north of I-70.
