The last of the snow…kinda

Snow fell heavily from Monday night through mid morning on Tuesday and amounts were generally in the 4-8 inch range for the northern and central mountains.

Winter Park recorded about 8 inches:

Loveland saw about 5 inches overnight:

And Aspen shows 4-5 inches on the Snowmass snow stake.

This could be the last widespread heavy snow even that we’ll see for the season (though the higher peaks will get snow again in May).

The rest of Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a few showers, and the same for Wednesday, and then Thursday, Friday, and Saturday should be warm, sunny, and dry, and just about perfect weather for any outdoor activity.

Another weak and diffuse storm could bring showers and cool air back to Colorado from late Sunday through the first half of next week, and there could be some high elevation snow during that time. Then I think we’ll trend back to dry and warm weather for the weekend of May 21-22.

I will be taking the rest of the week off and will write my last update of the season on Friday, May 13th (Friday the 13th!) when I’ll talk about the weather for the following two weekends.

Abasin is still open (through early June) and there is plenty of snow to enjoy in the backcountry, so I hope you’re out enjoying the mountains, staying safe, and having fun!
