Monday night update ... more snow, but low confidence in details

Update

Quick Monday night update at 945pm MST

A narrow band of intense snow is setting up over the mountains north of I-70 and south of the Wyoming border. This includes Steamboat and Cameron Pass, and the band should shift south during the night.

Areas under this band, roughly from just north of I-70 to Wyoming, could get a quick 3-6 inches. This is more snow than I expected. Can't complain about that!

Along I-70, at Arapahoe Basin and Loveland, we'll likely see a few inches by Tuesday morning, and it could be more if the band happens to sit over this area.

Further south, in the central and southern mountains, I have no clue what's going to happen. The models are still all over the place. My best estimate is that the central mountains don't see much snow, while snow ramps up in the far southern mountains by Tuesday morning, favoring Wolf Creek.

All of this snow that we're talking about on Monday night and Tuesday morning should move off to the east by midday Tuesday.

Then the last round of energy will ramp up the snow once again from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday around sunrise. During this time, expect another couple inches, mostly from I-70 or Aspen south to New Mexico.

Storm total snowfall from last Saturday through Wednesday morning should be roughly in line with my forecast of 5-10 inches for most mountains and 10-20 inches in the far north. I think the areas that will come in below my initial forecast numbers are the southern mountains and the mountains west of Crested Butte and Aspen, which will not see the highest totals.

I updated the webcams for every mountain in Colorado, so check our website or mobile apps often to watch the snow as it falls.

My next full update will be on Tuesday morning.

Thanks for reading!
