Heavy snow returns Monday

Update

Saturday morning through Sunday evening will remain quiet and dry. There will be gusty winds from time-to-time but it will be a gorgeous weekend with temps topping out in the 20s each day.

We'll then turn to Sunday night through Tuesday morning for our next strong system to impact the I-70 mountain corridor. This system will be slightly different as we will see very strong winds from the southwest. If you're a long time reader, you'll know that this wind direction isn't ideal for us. But this will be such a strong storm that it will overrun this less-than-ideal wind direction to deliver very heavy snow through Monday night and possibly into Tuesday for some locations.

Below is a look at the latest ensemble snow forecast for the Eisenhower Tunnel, courtesy of the University of Utah.

Most areas will be looking at a few inches through early Monday afternoon before the snow machine really cranks up through Monday night. Moderate to very heavy snow will continue into early Tuesday morning before tapering off through Tuesday as much colder air moves in. Tuesday morning will provide the best turns of next week so start planning now.

For travel, clear and dry road surfaces will be the story through Sunday evening. Wet and icy surfaces take over through Sunday night before snow-packed surfaces begin to form through midday Monday. We'll then be watching for reduced visibility and all road surfaces to become snow-packed on Monday evening. Make sure your vehicle is ready with snow/mud tires, AWD/4WD, and/or an alternative traction device from Monday afternoon through Tuesday.

Following the fun on Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly dry before one storm or a series of storms push into Colorado beginning next Friday, February 23rd. The pattern looks great into early-March so take advantage of the pow while it's being served:-)

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!
