All eyes on Monday night

Update

Sunny and dry conditions continue on Sunday. All road surfaces are clear and dry and this will remain the case through Sunday evening.

Off-and-on light snow will then return on Sunday night and this will be followed by chances for very heavy snow on Monday. This next system has many details but the main takeaways are winds from the southwest through Monday and abundant storm energy. Winds from the southwest are not ideal for producing snow along I-70 but the strength of this storm (vorticity and jet stream support) will give us the goods. Look for a few inches through midday Monday before the snow machine really cranks up Monday afternoon and into Monday night.

Below is a look at the WPC snow forecast (combination of many models) through Tuesday.

Pulling all of this together, it's very tough to provide an exact range but 5-10+ inches will the call for most locations through Tuesday. The best turns will be found on Tuesday morning but mountain temperatures will be hovering near 0F so prepare to bundle up.

For travel, wet and icy surfaces will return through Sunday night before snow-packed surfaces begin to form through midday Monday. Reduced visibility and snow-packed surfaces will then follow by Monday evening. Make sure your vehicle is ready with snow/mud tires, AWD/4WD, and/or an alternative traction device and keep an eye on CDOT for the latest travel updates.

Following a cold and mostly dry day on Wednesday, snow will return on Wednesday night and into Thursday and continue through next weekend. Icy and snow-packed road surfaces will return so make sure your vehicle is prepared through next weekend.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!
