Thanksgiving Eve

Summary:

  • Dry during the day on Wednesday.
  • Snow moves in Wednesday night.
  • Heavier snow along/east of the divide through Friday.
  • Continued light snow through the weekend.
  • Better chance for heavier showers beginning Saturday night.

Details:

No big changes compared to yesterday's forecast. Light snow will move into the I-70 corridor on Wednesday night, with very cold temperatures and higher accumulations east of the Continental Divide. Light snow showers will continue to fall into Thanksgiving day and throughout the weekend. Here's how it will breakdown.

Wednesday Night - Thursday: Light showers west of the divide, with slighter better accumulations east of the divide and down along the Front Range. The road surfaces will stay in decent shape but the combination of snow and cold temperatures could make for icy road surfaces from Denver to the Eisenhower Tunnel.

Friday: Continued light showers along the entire mountain corridor, with very cold temperatures along the Front Range. The road surfaces won't change much so travel speeds should stay close to normal. Here's a graphic showing the temperatures compared to average on Friday. See the color scale on the right for the appropriate change compared to average.

Saturday: Heavier showers south of the I-70 corridor. We will continue to receive light showers and normal travel speeds.

Saturday Night - Early Next Week: This will be the time to watch for slightly higher accumulations along the I-70 mountain corridor. Our winds will switch and begin to blow from the west and northwest, which favors snow production along the I-70 mountain corridor. The road surfaces, especially along the higher mountain passes, could turn over to a snow-packed mix so keep an eye on that.

Next, here's what we have for Thanksgiving travel.
