High-Elevation Snow Returns Thursday

Summary & Details

After an eventful weekend, our weather will turn warm and quiet along the I-70 mountain corridor through Wednesday. Mid-mountain highs will rise into the 40s each day under mostly sunny skies. Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, and Mary Jane at Winter Park are the only remaining open resorts but the spring conditions will be fantastic so get out and enjoy!

Beginning Thursday, the skies will begin to transition to more of an active pattern as our next slow-moving system slides into the West. Thursday and Friday will consist of more "pop up" afternoon showers but I do not expect much of anything in terms of accumulations for the highest elevations. The storm should then really begin to pick up some steam over Colorado as we head into Saturday, Sunday, and next Monday. The details are still up in the air at this point so stay tuned for further updates throughout the week.

As we head deeper into May, it will become increasing more difficult for any storms to have much of an impact on the road surfaces and travel speeds but the mountain passes can always become icy, slushy, and snow-packed under the right spring storm conditions. With this in mind and with the active spring that we've experienced so far, plan to keep your snow tires on and/or your chains ready if you plan to travel in the high country through May.
