Snowy start to the week

Update

Greetings snow lovers!

Last Thursday we talked about two chances for snow through early next week and that's exactly what Mother Nature delivered. We experienced a quick storm on Friday afternoon, followed by sunny skies and warmer temperatures on Saturday and Sunday. Our current storm made its way into Colorado on Sunday night, with the bulk of the heavier snowfall on the Front Range mountains. Most resorts along the corridor have picked 2-5 inches but that will be about it for this system.

All road surfaces from C-470 through Eagle-Vail are under an icy and slushy mix. Snow-packed spots are also present along Berthoud and Loveland Pass but the higher October sun angle should melt any remaining snow-packed spots on Monday afternoon.

This preview of winter will continue through Monday afternoon before any remaining showers come to an end on Monday evening. Clear skies will settle in over Colorado on Monday night, bringing us our coldest temperatures of the season. Overnight lows will drop into the low 20s and teens for many mountain locations.

The rest of this week will then feature beautiful weather, with sunny skies and mid-mountain temperatures in the 40s to low 50s.

Looking further ahead, we could see another quick-moving system next weekend but the details are still foggy. Warm and dry weather follows early next week before we keep an eye on the second half of October for a return to active weather.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Thursday!

Snow Tires

Make sure your vehicle is prepared for winter driving conditions. I highly recommend snow tires if you're driving along the mountain corridor from now through May. This is not only for your own safety and peace of mind but for the safety of others. Find all CDOT passenger vehicle traction and chain laws here: http://opsw.co/2fdJDM1
