Two Thumbs Up

Update

Our latest weather-maker has played out as expected, with the resorts reporting 3-6 inches on Thursday morning. The one outlier is Beaver Creek, which is reporting 10 inches.

They have been caught on the short end of the stick for much of the year so we'll take it!

All road surfaces are now under an icy and snow-packed mix from the Eisenhower Tunnel through Vail. Loveland Pass is also closed until avalanche mitigation can be completed on Thursday morning so stay tuned to CDOT for the latest updates.

For the rest of Thursday, expect light showers to continue in the morning ahead of a break in the action by midday. The road surfaces will improve by Thursday afternoon but slower travel speeds can still be expected.

Our next round of snow will then make its move into the I-70 mountain corridor on Thursday night. This sneaky system will slide into northern Colorado and deliver off-and-on periods of moderate to heavy snow into Friday, with total accumulations of 3-6 inches. We'll most likely only wake up to an inch or two on Friday morning but snow will continue into Friday afternoon.

For travel, all road surfaces will once again become icy and snow-packed from Thursday night through Friday afternoon. Holiday traffic will also build by late Friday afternoon so give yourself plenty of extra travel time.

The action will then come to an end by Friday night. Sunny skies will take over for the weekend, along with temperatures returning to the 20s. Icy road surfaces will still be encountered on Saturday but travel impacts (outside of traffic) will not be an issue.

Looking further ahead, we should remain mostly dry next week before our full attention remains locked on January 19th and 20th for our next round of healthy totals.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!
