Awesome Spring Conditions this Week – “LIVE” from the FISH’

Summary

On Monday sunny spring conditions reigned supreme across the Big Mountain in Whitefish. Morning lows in the mid 20’s and sunny afternoon highs in the upper 30’s made the snow absolutely perfectly corny for the first day of spring. For Montana hardcore skiers and riders Whitefish has been the powder epicenter of the state this winter. Here’s an example: From Feb 25 thru March 16th Whitefish received 19 consecutive powder days! B.C. resorts get the press but "other" Northern Rockies places like Whitefish deliver the goods here in the good ole’ USA.

Short Term Forecast

West of the Divide:

Monday night into Tuesday, West siders will see a transition to a tad bit warmer temps (in the low 40's by say 2pm) with generally mostly cloudy skies and numerous snow showers throughout the day. Snow will be maybe a skiff to 1” thru the late afternoon.Tuesday night into Wednesday look for even higher snow levels to around 6000’ by midday with off and on snow showers and getonerally a skiff to an inch of slushy snow in accumulation. The spring snow conditions should be pretty good as Weds morning lows look to be just below freezing firming up the snow for daytime highs to soften in up in the the low 40's.

East of the Divide:

Tuesday, East siders will see pretty much the same thing as above with periods of snow showers and high temps rising to the upper 30’s above 7000’. Tuesday night into Wednesday will see morning lows in the upper 20’s with snow showers prevalent across the alpine areas (9000' +) and optimistically an inch or so by noon. Clearing skies will transition through the late afternoon.

Extended Forecast

West and East of the Divide:

Thursday - Sunday... In the long term I’m keeping an eye on a more potent pulse of Pacific moisture set to impact areas West of the Divide starting Friday night and spreading into SW Montana early Saturday morning. The potency comes from cold air filtering in from the Gulf of Alaska in a NW flow dropping snow levels through the weekend on both sides of the Divide. Too early to predict snow amounts but several inches seem likely across SW Montana and areas along the Idaho border. Stay tuned.

Powder Out -

Bob
