SNOW REPORTS!

Tuesday

Good Morning Everyone! It’s Tuesday February 9th, and yesterday’s winter storm is continuing to make its way out to sea as we speak. There is plenty of new snow to report across New England, but Massachusetts and New Hampshire got the most out of this one. Southeastern, MA, was among the areas hit hardest by this storm. Blue Hills Ski area is reporting a foot of new snow, while Wachusetts mountain gained 8 inches! With lights winds and highs in the upper 20’s forecasted for today, these two mountains will be the best areas to experience the new powder. Northeast ski resorts across the rest of New England are reporting anywhere from 2-6 inches of new snow. Here are just a few of the reports we have seen so far.

Massachusetts

  • Berkshire East - 5”
  • Blue Hills - 12”
  • Bradford - 6”
  • Jiminy Peak - 4”
  • Wachusett - 8”

New Hampshire

  • Bretton Woods - 4"
  • Cannon - 4"
  • Loon - 2"
  • Pats Peak - 6”
  • Ragged - 5”
  • Sunapee - 5”
  • Waterville - 4"

Maine

  • Jefferson - 2”
  • Sugarloaf - 3”
  • Sunday River - 2”

Vermont

  • Bromley - 4”
  • Okemo - 3”
  • Sugarbush - 3”

So no matter where you are in skiing in New England today, you’re guaranteed to enjoy at least a couple of inches of new snow at your favorite resort. If your favorite resort missed out on this storm, don’t worry, because there is still the potential to add snow in isolated locations over the remainder of the week.

Short Range Forecast:

The low pressure system approaching New England from The Great Lakes region is still expected to bring snow showers to northern VT,NH, and southern ME between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night. This system is expected to be just to our west by early tomorrow morning.

The snow showers associated with this system could add an additional 2-4 inches to the resorts in these regions. As this disturbance passes, temperatures will become bitter cold by this weekend with low temperatures falling below 0F at the base of local ski areas. Temperatures at mountain peaks could fall as low as -10F. The wind chill factor will make these temperatures feel even colder. So if you’re planning on making a ski trip for this weekend dress very warm for the occasion, and stock up on the toe and hand warmers, you’ll be happy you did.

Long Range Forecast:

After a bitter cold weekend, temperatures are expected to climb back into the upper 20’s by early next week. The models are suggesting that our next best chance of snow will be sometime next week between Tuesday and Wednesday. The current forecast suggests the possibility of a rain/snow mix on Tuesday changing over to snow by Wednesday. If this storm stays on its projected path, we could see another significant snow event this time next week. Here is what we can expect for snow over the next 7 days.

Nothing left to report for today, so get out there and enjoy the new snow while the temperatures are reasonably warm! We’ll be back tomorrow to give updates on the snow showers approaching from the west. We’ll also keep you posted on any new details about the storm the models are projecting for next week. Have a great day!
