Weekend

Good morning everyone. We’re off to a cool start here in Plymouth, NH. The sky is mostly cloudy with a temperature around 37 degrees. Killington is still the only mountain open today, but Sugarbush, Sugarloaf, Sunday River, and Jay Peak all plan on being open this weekend. There will be periods of sunshine and clouds over at Killington today, and high temperatures are expected to reach 60. With a few trails still having good coverage, today should be a decent day for spring skiing over at Killington.

Weekend

As of now it’s looking like the last day for the resorts that plan on closing after this weekend will be tomorrow. High pressure is expected to settle into the region will which keep the skies clear. Temperatures over at Jay Peak and Sugarbush will be in the low 50’s, Killington will see temperatures in the mid 50’s, and Sunday River and Sugarloaf will see much warmer temperatures in the low 60’s. The weather tomorrow is looking beautiful, but Sunday is another story.

On Sunday, a disturbance at upper levels associated with a low pressure system to our west will produce rain throughout most of New England. The rain is expected to start by the late morning for the majority of New England. However, the Sugarloaf and Sunday River area may not see precipitation until the late afternoon. So if you’re planning on getting your final runs of the season in on Sunday, your best bet will be to make a trip to Sugarloaf or Sunday River. Sunday is looking like a washout for the mountains in Vermont.

Next Week

As of now, it’s unknown whether or not Killington will still be open during the week next week, but here’s some information on the weather for next week in any case. The rain on Sunday will continue into Monday as the low pressure system associated with Sunday’s rain will make its presence felt in New England throughout most of the day on Monday. Over an inch of rain is expected by Monday night in Vermont.

If Killington is open next week, it’s going to be hard to find a day with decent spring conditions. After likely losing significant snow pact from the expected rain on Sunday and Monday, Tuesday is looking like the only semi dry day at Killington for this week. There is however, a slight chance of light showers in that region on late Tuesday afternoon. After Tuesday, there is expected to be significant rain on Wednesday and Thursday. It would be hard to imagine that Killington will be able to sustain good coverage through these approaching rain events. This would lead me to believe this could be the final weekend at Killington as well. There goal is to make it as far into the month of May as possible, but we’ll have to wait and see what mother nature has to say about that.

That’s all for today, I’ll pop in tomorrow for one last update on what to expect at that mountains that are still open in the Northeast this weekend. Have a great Friday!
