Three storms during the next week!

Summary

The most recent storm on Sunday and Monday dropped about one foot of snow on most mountains, and at least another foot will likely accumulate between Thursday night and the following Wednesday. The best powder days will likely be on Saturday, next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Short Term Forecast

The storm that moved through New Mexico on Sunday and Monday did provide some surprises, but overall all mountains fared well with most hills reporting about one foot of snow.

  • Santa Fe - 15”
  • Ski Apache - 14”
  • Angel Fire - 13”
  • Red River - 12”
  • Pajarito - 12”
  • Sandia Peak - 12”
  • Taos - 9”
  • Sipapu - 8”+

A one-foot snow storm is nothing to sneeze at, but multiple storms are even better, and that’s what we have coming up during the next week.

The first storm will arrive on Thursday night and Friday. The graphic below shows storminess as the blue (cooler) colors.

This first storm should bring a few inches of snow on Thursday night and Friday, and then a second and more powerful storm should make a direct hit on Saturday.

Moderate to intense snow should fall on Friday night and Saturday, so I think that you’ll find the deepest powder on Saturday. Snow showers may continue on Saturday night, which could provide fun leftovers on Sunday.

Snow totals from Thursday night through Sunday should be in the 6-12 inch range for most mountains.

Extended Forecast

Following the first two storms of the series, we should experience dry weather on Sunday night into Monday morning.

Then the next storm should bring additional snow from Monday through Tuesday night. Compared to the first two storms on Friday and Saturday, the Monday and Tuesday storm will track further north and will likely drop the most snow on Colorado.

You should find the deepest snow on Tuesday, though northwest flow behind the storm could add at least a few more inches on Tuesday night, so there could be great turns to enjoy on Wednesday morning, especially in the higher-elevation areas like Taos.

The northern mountains of New Mexico should fare the best during this last storm and accumulations should be in the 6-10 inch range.

Thanks for reading and I hope you’re ready to enjoy the upcoming powder!
