Powder Saturday and next Tuesday/Wednesday

Update

A storm is going to track across Arizona and New Mexico on Friday and Saturday and should provide powder on Saturday to most areas of northern New Mexico.

I say “should” because these southern, cut-off storms are hard to forecast. They create bands of intense precipitation, and if your favorite mountain happens to get hit by one of these bands, snowfall could be much higher than expected. However, if these bands miss your favorite mountain, then snow amounts come in lower than you hope. It’s a tricky game.

Here is the snow forecast for Friday and Saturday.

Most areas should get 4-8 inches, but again, amounts higher or lower than this would not surprise me based on the erratic nature of this storm.

Looking ahead, another storm should bring snow next Tuesday and Wednesday. Amounts could be anything between a few inches to over a foot in the northern mountains, depending on the exact track.

Here is one forecast for next Tuesday and Wednesday.

And below is another forecast for next Tuesday and Wednesday, made just 12 hours after the forecast above.

That’s a big difference in amounts between the two forecasts, which signals that we’ll need to wait a few more days to have more certainty about the storm.

Thanks for reading!
