Next storm for New Mexico on Saturday, January 20th
Update
Before looking ahead to the next state-wide storm, I do want to mention that a weak storm will slide across eastern New Mexico on Monday afternoon and Monday night. This system should bring a few flakes to areas on the east side of the mountains, namely around Angel Fire. You might wake up on Tuesday morning to a bit of fresh snow at Angel Fire.
The rest of the week, from Tuesday through Friday, should be dry with high temperatures in the 30s.
Then a significant storm will move across the entire western US and Canada late this week through the weekend, and New Mexico will get snow from this system.
Here is the snow forecast for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (January 19-21).
Like most storms this season, unfortunately, the deepest snowfall will stay to the north of New Mexico.
However, the storm should track far enough south to bring flakes to most or all of New Mexico’s mountains, with 2-6 inches of accumulation. Below is the same map as above, but zoomed into New Mexico.
Expect to find snow falling on Saturday with additional fresh snow on the ground during the first run on Sunday morning.
Following this weekend storm, the weather pattern should continue to be cool and stormy across the western US and Canada during the week of January 22-27.
I am not sure what this pattern means specifically for New Mexico. It’s possible that most of the snow next week could stay to the north, or a midweek storm (around January 24th-ish) could move far enough south to bring another round of snow to the state.
