Open Snow Northwest

Expect more sunshine early this week for the NW. Whistler and eastern BC too will see sunshine too. There will be a continuation of spring-like conditions on the ski slopes as high pressure and offshore flow will produce mostly clear weather with temperatures above normal. Freezing levels will be 12,000 ft. There will be very minor melting on the lower slopes and in the parking lot – but this is not a full on spring melt.  

The sunny, stable pattern will last through Wednesday , but more clouds and a sprinkle are possible later in the week (later Wed/Thur). There are some weak weather systems that will brush us later in the week and weekend. However, snow levels will be high 5000-7000ft, but there isn’t much moisture available, so we won’t get too beat up by rain. However, don’t expect any significant snowfall either.

The long-range forecasts are not showing any respectable snowfall, at this point. The uncertainty in the long-range forecast is high, but the long range trend is more dry than snowy.

Field report: I got some turns at Crystal on Sunday. There was lots of sunshine with mild, spring-like conditions. Snow softened up on the south-facing slopes - little grabby in the afternoon. The north facing and shady spots are still almost chalky with good skiing. Coverage remains excellent, but I saw a very few thin spots on Sunnyside. Skied everything, but no hike to Southback.
