Very Cold - Bundle Up! And More Snow Ahead
Summary
The promised snowfall really piled up in the Cascades late Saturday and Sunday (15-20”). It's great quality snow and will groom up well. Now the cold air is settling in with a snow level near 500 ft. to near sea level. A little new snow will fall Monday, then sunny and very cold Tuesday and Wednesday (morning lows: under 10 degrees). More mountain snow is coming up Thursday and Friday
Short Term Forecast
A weak system, Monday, will produce a little mountain snow (1-4”) with a 500 ft snow level. Expect to ski in very cold conditions the next few days, as the artic air spreads through the NW. There will be some travel issues in the flatlands, headed to the mountains, on Monday, as the Seattle (and Vancouver) areas receives a little low elevation snow (trace to 2”).
Tuesday and Wednesday will be very cold, but dry with sunshine - bundle up! Face mask, layers, etc. Expect mountain temperatures in the teen for highs.
Early Wednesday temps above (degrees F) – brrrr…
Extended Forecast
A new storm arrives Thursday and Friday and will produce 1-2 feet (48 hr total, plus) in the mountains (see graphic) . Expect the snow level to stay low, but rise to 2,500 feet, as this new storm moves in from the west, scouring out the coldest air. I would target Friday or Saturday morning for a deep powder skiing experience, from Whistler to Stevens to Crystal to Hood to Bachelor.
