Update 12 PM:

For those of you tracking along at home calm down I see it.  The European deterministic model was showing up to an inch of liquid along the crest next weekend on the 0z run last night.  The European ensembles though were showing only light amounts of precip, as well as the GFS last night through the 12z run today.

However....the new 12z European run shows even more liquid than last night's run with up up to 2 inches of liquid along the crest now.  It is still a lone wolf but with back to back runs showing the trough pulling in a lot of moisture next weekend it is peaking my interest and we need to watch the trend.

From This Morning:

Another cold morning with temperatures around zero here in the valley.  There are big inversions with temperatures on the mountains up in the 20's.  We will see temperatures struggle to break 40 again today with lots of sun.

No changes to the forecast for the next week.  We are going to see a cold front push through Wednesday but the precip associated with it looks to wash out by the time the front reaches Tahoe.  We may see a light snow shower but nothing to get excited about.

Next weekend we will have another cold front dropping in.  This one may combine with some moisture from the South.  Not looking for anything significant yet but in this dry pattern we have been having in January we will take several inches.  I will continue to fine tune the forecast for next weekend all week as it is the only real chance of snow I see right now in the forecast.

The long-range models are showing nothing to get excited about until we get into the first week of February.  If the MJO convection strenthens again and continues to move East we may get some help and see jet stream cut into CA.  For now we continue to wait and watch.  I don't see anything in the pattern that shows a lock on the dry pattern or a shift to big storms right now.  Hopefully something will show up soon.  There is nothing more painful than forecasting dry weather on a site designed to forecast snow.

Hang in there...BA
