We are in the middle of a fun storm cycle with chances for snow during four days in a row from Thursday through Sunday.

On Thursday, Steamboat received 1 inch of snow during the morning, and then additional snow fell on Thursday night with 2 more inches being reported at mid-mountain and 3 more inches on the Summit snow stake camera.

Now on Friday morning, we are in between storms and there is plenty of sunshine. The snow surface should be soft and powdery thanks to the 3-4 inches that accumulated on Thursday and Thursday night – get out there!

For the rest of Friday, expect a mix of sunshine and likely more clouds and snow showers in the afternoon as the next storm moves our way.

Then on Friday night, we should see steadier snow with 2-5 inches of accumulation. This should provide a low-end powder morning for first chair on Saturday. Also, keep your eye on the snow stake camera as there are some aspects about this storm (wind direction switching to blow from the west and northwest, cooling temperatures) that could bring more snow than forecast to Steamboat. The limiting factor for snowfall will be the cold temperatures, which will drop to the single digits on Saturday morning (temperatures this cold can mean that the atmosphere produces smaller snowflakes which would limit snow accumulation).

On Saturday, the storm will clear out in the morning and we should be dry with at least partly sunny weather through the day.

On Saturday night, the final storm in this cycle will bring snow through Sunday midday with an additional 2-5 inches of accumulation. This final storm should keep the snow soft and fresh for Sunday morning.

Looking further ahead, we’ll have dry weather from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday, with snow possibly returning sometime between next Tuesday evening and Thursday as long as that storm doesn’t track too far to the south.
