Short-Term Forecast

Today through Saturday

Warm and Windy is the name of the game today through Thursday in advance of a strong storm that will bring fresh snow to Sun Valley on Friday.

Here's how the storm is shaping up, thanks to NOAA's GOES-West satellite image. Notice the enhanced water vapor areas in Blue and Orange colors, while the main driver of the storm is well off the Pacific Coast, wrapped up in a spiral band

We will see rain all the way up Baldy tomorrow but a cold front is on its way on Thursday night and Friday. That means 4 to 6 inches of snow will be waiting for first chair Friday morning and Saturday as well.

Extended Forecast

Sunday through Friday, January 26

The ensemble forecast below is for the Titus Study Plot near Galena Summit. Notice below the trend line up, up, up.  That's how it will stack up over the next week beginning with our storm on Friday and a much stronger one on Monday.

It won't stop there.  The Climate Prediction Center's 6 to 10-Day Outlook paints a bullseye of above-normal precipitation potential over us through next week, with colder-than-normal temperatures.

Here's another GFS computer model forecast of snow amounts.  Pink colors tell us that Sun Valley will score over a foot of new snow through next Friday.

Put away the raincoat tomorrow night and Get out the powder skis!
