Spring Weekend...
Update
We saw scattered snow showers around yesterday, and we could see more today (Thursday). Then Spring arrives for the weekend and into early next week.
With the low spinning over Nevada today there is a better chance of seeing snow on the mountains on the East side of the lake. I saw some snow falling on the Heavenly cam this morning. Only expecting a dusting of snow. But it's still cold today with highs in the 30's on the upper mountains and 40's at lake level.
The weather flips fast starting Friday through the weekend. Highs jump into the 50's on the mountains and 60's at lake level. After all the snow in March and April there is plenty of snow to come up and ski this weekend at the 6 ski resorts still open. Here is a look at a shot from the web cams this morning of all 6.
I will be at Boreal tomorrow for their final "Feel Good Friday". After that I only have one stop left on the end of season tour of the Tahoe ski resorts I have been posting on the TahoeWeather Instagram page, Squaw Valley. I will be there either Sunday or Monday to conclude the tour. Next Week we have Squaw/Alpine and Mt. Rose left open. Rose closes the 29th and Squaw will shoot for Memorial Day weekend. So still plenty of time to get more days on the hill.
The weather stays nice at least through Tuesday of next week. The models continue to show a cut-off low spinning down the West Coast Wed-Thu next week. We will have to watch the track to see if we could see some cooler air along with rain and snow. The GFS is pretty aggressive on the latest run.
So we will have to keep an eye on it. The GFS ensemble mean runs also show a couple of cold troughs trying to push in the first week of May. So the forecasting isn't done yet. Normally I still have to forecast storms until the end of May. Sometimes we see snow into June.
Stay tuned...BA
P.S. I will have all the final stats for snowfall the first week of May. I will also be posting throughout the Summer about travels to National Parks and around the country, as well as outlooks on next season by the end of the Summer.
