Wet May...

Update

The Weather:

We are continuing the cool and showery weather again this week.  We continue to have lows wandering in one after the next off the Pacific.  That is bringing in some moisture and cooler air which is causing instability as we heat up during the day and afternoon showers to fire up.  This would have been a nice pattern to have during the Winter....

It feels like it has been a cool and wet May so far with showers developing around the area almost everyday.  The Northern Sierra Index has only 31% of average precip so far this month, but these storms are enhanced by taller mountains so it will be interesting to see the Snow Lab precip numbers after the month is over.  We have had some really heavy showers firing up around the lake.

Last Wednesday we saw the snow levels lower and some snow on the mountains.  On Thursday Snow Brains wrote a piece about hiking up Mt. Rose Thursday to ski 4-8" of fresh snow.  That is really the only way to get snow reports this time of year.

We may finally see some drier and warmer air move in next week.  Until then afternoon showers are possible into the weekend.

The RV:

Some of you have expressed some interest in my RV project.  I am planning to spend time with the family in the mountains this Summer, and then on the road around the country.  I'm going tell some of the story here on the blog for something to read until we get into next season.  I am new to RVing so my story may be more of a comedy.

I bought a used RV that was stuck in the 90's, it looked exactly like my childhood home with floral wall paper and lots of green.  I stripped down the exterior, sealed up the entire thing water tight, and painted on new stripes and repaired the awning.  New tires, brakes, transmission, etc.

For the interior I ripped out all the green carpet, repaired the walls, built new counter tops, painted all the walls and cabinets, and started the new floor.  I'm in the middle of working on the kitchen back splash before I install the new counter.  Here is a look at some pics after I tore out everything.

I haven been taking a break from social media and pretty much everything this month as I work on getting the RV completely restored for Summer.  I have finished the front half including the cab, overhead bed, dining area, and living area.  Here is a pic of the dining area.

So I still have to finish the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.  I'm working to try and finish by the end of the month.

The original plan was to hit the road in June but some personal things came up.  The new plan is to camp around the Sierra some weekends in June and July, and then to set out on the cross country road trip in August.  I want to be back by the middle of October before the snow flies!  I also have to be back to fly out for my 20 year H.S. reunion, which is strange because I swear I just graduated last year.

As you can see in the photos above I am doing most of the posting of my story on the RV project on my Instagram page, "BAs Summer Adventures".  I'll be posting most of my story on there as we travel as well if you want to follow along.  Any weather posts from the Sierra this Summer will still be on the "Tahoe Weather" page.

Stay tuned...BA
