Cool, Dry...
Summary
- We will be in a cool and dry pattern for the next 10 days. That will bring us decent conditions for nightly snowmaking at the mountains. - Starting the 17th through Thanksgiving week, the pattern may continue to shift to a more favorable pattern for storms.
Short Term Forecast
High pressure is sitting just off the West Coast and we are in a cool dry flow. Highs today may only be in the 40's with another shot of colder air possible Sunday. In general, highs will be in the 50's with 20's at night and teens in the lower valleys. That will make for decent snowmaking, so the mountains should be pumping snow nightly going forward.
There are several ski resorts that want to try and open next weekend. The cold nights may be enough to help them get a trail or two open.
Extended Forecast
Not much change in the long-range forecast from 2 days ago. The ridge looks like it may shift further off the coast by the weekend of the 17th. That may allow the first storm to dive in that weekend. But as we go through the week of the 19th the ensemble mean runs continue to show the ridge moving further out near the Aleutian Islands, and a trough near the West Coast.
That would set up an even better pattern for storms Thanksgiving week. So we continue to watch and wait for a pattern that will bring the first snowstorms of the season to CA.
Stay tuned...BA
