Summary:

High pressure is building into the West Coast through the beginning of next week.  Temperatures will begin to warm back into the 50's by the weekend.  Next week low pressure stalled off the coast will eject inland by midweek.  That may bring us another storm by next Wednesday followed by the trough that may bring more storms behind that. 

 

Details:

The light snow showers Monday dropped a dusting up to 3 inches on some of the mountains.  The highest amounts looked to be Southwest of the basin with up to 5 inches falling down near Bear Valley.

The storms we just got were not supposed to bring feet of snow, but we were lucky with the snow bands that formed and sat over the basin.  The cold air in the wake of the 2 cold systems will start to warm starting Wednesday as high pressure builds in.  We will have quiet weather for about a week before we could see some changes.

Long-Range:

Low pressure will be stalled in the East Pacific under the high pressure extending from the Aleutians to the West Coast this weekend, in sort of a Rex block pattern.  A trough looks like it will drop down from Alaska next week into the Eastern Pacific splitting the ridge with the high pressure over the West Coast shifting East.  That will help to eject the low pressure off the coast inland.

The  models are still struggling with how fast the trough will push into the West coast and if the storm will move inland to our North or further South.  The difference for next Wednesday would be how much precip we would get and the snow levels.  Behind the storm the trough may push into the West Coast bringing more storms by the end of the week.  Still 7+ days out so confidence levels are not high yet, but the models want to bring us a stormy period for at least a week.
