May...

May is turning out to be the wet month we thought it might.  The low that tracked over the Sierra last week brought snow below lake level.  It was nice to have snow falling at lake level on Thursday for my birthday after the season we had.  Several inches accumulated on the mountains.  Mammoth reported 18 inches up top from the storm.  They extended their season and more snow is on the way.

The pattern of troughs dropping down the West Coast from the Gulf of Alaska looks to continue this week and maybe into next week.  The first low will move through to our North tonight, but will bring colder air.  Highs this week will only be in the 50's at lake level and 40's on the mountains.

The next low will drop down the coast by Thursday and move inland over Southern CA into the weekend.  This will bring more moisture to the area with showers possible Wednesday through Saturday.  This low will not move directly over the Tahoe Basin like like week, so the snow levels will not drop as low.  But they will still drop near 7000 feet at times Thursday and Friday with the bands of precip.  We could see a few more inches of snow on the mountains.

Another low may drop down into CA later in the weekend into the beginning of next week bringing more cold air and precip.  This is a pattern that would have piled up cold powder had it come during the Winter.

So Summer is on hold for now.  I'll update again later this week.  BA
