Happy Thanksgiving!

We saw snow showers yesterday with some heavier bands that setup in the morning North of the lake.  Resorts North of the lake are reporting 3-7 new inches.  South of the lake lighter showers and reports of 1-2 inches, except for a lake-effect snow band that hit Heavenly with 6 inches.  Storm totals across the basin are now 12-23 inches.

Cold air sticks around through the weekend with chances for snow showers each day through Saturday in the afternoons.  Not expecting more than a coating of snow possible from the light showers each day.  The exception may be the East side of the lake at Mt. Rose and Heavenly with the flow coming from the East.  The lift by the mountains on the East side could create a bit more snow.  The latest model runs this morning show up to 3-6 inches on the highest peaks possible on the East side through Saturday.

In between showers we will see sun and stars with overnight lows getting pretty cold without clouds and highs only in the 20's.  Last night Truckee dropped to 1 degree and then the clouds came back and by 5 a.m. it was back to 10 degrees.  Great snowmaking conditions through the weekend.

The trend on the forecast models for Monday is to split the next storm as it moves towards the coast.  The GFS and Canadian models bring in light snowfall Monday from the split off low moving through just to the North.  The Euro drops the low South and keeps us dry.  We will keep watching the trend to see if we can get a few inches of light snow.

The trough pushes closer to the West Coast next Thursday with more precip possibly pushing into Northern CA.  The forecast models are in better agreement we could see snow next Thursday than Monday, but right now the amounts look light.

The following week we may see some stronger storms as the trough could push into the West Coast.

Ok, no more weather, go spend time with your families.  Happy Thanksgiving!
