Don't Be Surprised...

A low will move from North to South through Nevada this weekend.  The cold front associated will bring some snow showers tonight into Saturday morning with snow levels to lake level.  We could see a dusting of snow across the Tahoe basin, and up to an inch or two on the mountain tops.

Saturday the weather stays cool with highs only in the 50's.  The sun should return by Saturday afternoon with warming temps into the 60's by the first half of next week.

We are still watching a storm that will approach the West Coast next weekend.  The forecast models are in fairly good agreement that the trough will elongate or split as it reaches the West Coast Thursday.  We could see some showers Thursday, and then Friday an area of low pressure may spin over Central CA bringing us heavier precip.

The models are showing the low spinning over the area most of next weekend with snow showers for the mountains.  The total precip forecasts are more than a week out, but right now show over an inch of liquid.  So we could see a snowy weekend on the mountains.  The question will be how fast with the low move out.

Here is the 10 day precip forecast from the GFS.

We have had snow showers several days over the past week including the decent storm we saw last Friday.  We were forecasting up to a foot of snow on the mountains for last Friday and several inches for lake level.  Somehow the storm got dubbed a "surprise storm".  I'm guessing that is because people are not watching the weather this late in the season.  The fact that some resorts got 20 inches up top was a little bit of a surprise to me, but the snowstorm was not.  It tends to happen every Spring though with late season storms.  The storms become surprises.  I hope some of you are still tracking along with us so that you are not surprised by snow as we go into May.

Stay tuned...BA
