Not Much Changing....
Summary
Cooler weather for Saturday is replace by some milder weather Sunday into early next week. Highs in the 50's Saturday will be in the 60's at lake level by Sunday. Still watching for the chance of a storm and some precip for the later part of next week, Thursday into Friday. The models are still flip flopping on the amount of precip possible.
Short Term Forecast
Not much change to the forecast since Monday. We saw cooler air continue this week and that will continue into the day on Saturday. We did see Boreal and Mt. Rose fire up the snow guns the last couple days with the colder air. The are both trying to open at least one run by the end of the month.
We also saw a lot of smoke blow into the area on Wednesday as the winds switched out of the West. We have had much clearer skies the last 2 days even though the fires continue to rage all over Northern CA.
Milder weather moves in starting Sunday as high pressure builds over the area. That should bring sunny and mild weather through Wednesday.
Extended Forecast
Still watching for the possibility of a storm for later next week. The long range model runs have been showing the possibility of a storm for over a week now. This time of year with the changing seasons the long-range of the model runs is usually inconsistent which has been the case over the past week, with some model runs showing the precip staying to the North and other bringing in a decent storm. The typhoon activity picking up in the Western Pacific is also messing with the models as where those storms track and interact with the jet stream can affect the weather down stream over our area.
On the latest model runs the GFS is still back and forth on how far South the heavier precip pushes. Here is the 6z run.
Here is the 12z run which also pulls in a low that is sitting off the Southern CA coast at the same time which helps to bring precipitation to most of CA.
Here is a look at the 12z European model run which is drier like the 6z GFS run.
The model runs are showing at least some precip on the latest runs with less runs showing a completely dry scenario. One thing looks certain, the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies will have a lot of rain and snow coming later next week. Hopefully we get some snow and at least get some rain down close to the Bay Area to help with the fire situation.
Stay tuned...BA
