Winter Back to Summer...

Summary

Cool and breezy today behind the storm with highs in the 40's. We begin to warmup over the weekend with lots of sun. Highs in the 50's Saturday and 60's Sunday. That warming trend continues through next week with highs at lake level reaching 70 degrees. The next chance of a pattern change doesn't look possible at least until the end of the month.

Short Term Forecast

The storm moved through pretty fast overnight, maybe a little faster than expected.  That may have limited high end forecast accumulations, but we pretty much picked up what we expected.  A dusting to an inch around the lake, 1-2 inches around 7000 feet, and most ski resorts are reporting around 3 inches on the upper mountain around 8000 feet.  Hard to know if a couple more inches than that fell up higher with not much reporting this time of year.

Here are a bunch of pictures of the snow to enjoy while we go through a warm and dry period.

It's breezy and chilly today and it looks like Winter on the mountains, but high pressure is building back in this weekend and we will begin a warming spell.

Extended Forecast

Right now it looks like we will be warm and sunny with highs in the 60's and 70's next week as high pressure dominates the West.

Two days ago I discussed a possible pattern change around the 28th-30th.  Looking this morning it looks like if we see a pattern change it would be later closer to the 30th-31st.  But the long-range models are struggling with the long-range as they should be right now.

One cool thing to look at right now is how the sea surface temps are almost completely opposite of 2 years ago.  The warm is cold and the cold warm.  A lot of our Winter forecast is based on that.

For now we enjoy the Winter weather today, the Summer weather for the next 10 days, and we look for to a pattern change for November that hopefully brings us a snowy month.

Stay tuned...BA
