Sam Collentine will be off the grid at the Skinner Hut in central Colorado through Tuesday, February 28th. Joel Gratz will be taking over the forecast duties until Sam returns.

The upcoming weather pattern will require patience as deep snow totals will take some time to materialize. A series of storms will pass over the northern Rockies through this week, and without much of a break in the snow, a few inches each day and night will add up to very nice totals by Wednesday and Thursday.

From Sunday morning through Tuesday afternoon, the high-resolution WRF-3km shows double-digit amounts likely.

Through Tuesday, the wind direction will generally blow from the west-southwest and southwest. This direction often favors Jackson Hole over Grand Targhee, so I expect JHMR to report a few more inches each day and night.

Then from Tuesday evening through Wednesday or Thursday, the wind direction should switch to blow more from the west, and this could begin to favor Grand Targhee.

Snow totals through Thursday should reach 12-24 inches, and I think the powder will get deeper and more fun each day.

While the storm track will stay close to northern Wyoming, it might lift just a bit further to the north on Friday so we might head back toward dry weather.

But, the storm track will stay somewhere over the northern Rockies through the weekend and into next week, so the Teton’s should be close enough to see snow most of these days.

It’s tricky to forecast exact powder days during weather patterns like this because snow falls over multiple days rather than coming in one definitive dump. That said, the pattern does look good for continued snow through mid-March, so this amazing season is far from over!
