Winter is winding down

With temperatures hitting the 50º mark across much of the Upper Midwest on Saturday, things are going to very quickly start feeling like spring. However, with that being said, still a chance we will see some snow accumulating on the ground Sunday afternoon and again on Monday night.

After the low that is causing havoc in Chicago today and spinning up tornados in the southern United States pretty much completely missed the Upper Midwest yesterday, things stay very quiet through the rest of the week. Right now the clouds should stick around through Friday mid-day before they finally move out and we really start to warm up. As I said before, many areas in central Minnesota and Wisconsin should see highs above 50 on Saturday under sunny skies. Areas further north even have a chance on Saturday to get above freezing for the first time this year, so going to be a very sloppy day in the snow.

As for the double low pressure over the weekend, the models have been sticking with a very unorganized system until it gets east of our area. So that being said, between the high temperatures on Saturday and dwindling snow cover, not too excited about accumulations with this system.

Right now I’d stick with 1-3” in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, with areas further south seeing a dusting or half-inch at best. Sadly, it looks like spring is quickly making itself at home.

As for the long term into the middle of next week, we should see anything shot of precipitation on Wednesday evening or Thursday, but the models are all over the place with location and strength, so holding off on any numbers, but look for something on next Wednesday night at least.

Enjoy (what’s left of) the snow!
