Piling Up

Summary:

A weak disturbance is keeping snow going this morning in many parts of the Wasatch.  We should clear out this afternoon, but another disturbance moves in tonight for a chance for a bit more snow on Tuesday.

Details:

Snow continues to fall in the Wasatch, especially in areas favored by the northwest flow.  Alta is reporting an additional 14" since yesterday with 6" of that falling over night.  That brings their storm total to 31".... 27 of those inches have fallen since the last chair was spun for the public on Saturday afternoon.  Other areas of the Cottonwoods reporting similar numbers.  Additional showers should add a few more inches before we clear out later today.

Snowfall totals as of now look to be 20-30" for the Cottonwoods with 8-16" elsewhere.  Beaver Mountain up north seems to be doing very well with 20+" falling at Tony Grove Lake snotel nearby.  If you consider that the forecast was 1-2 feet with more possible in the Cottonwoods heading into this storm, I'd say we are right on track!  Tomorrow, I'll take a look at snowfall so far compared to average.

On Tuesday, it looks like we'll have one more disturbance move through.  The main jet is retreating northward and taking cold air with it.  This event looks to be warmer and snow levels will rise tomorrow.  We could get a few inches of new snow tomorrow in the high elevations but there's also the potential for graupel and rime.

By Wednesday, we finally clear out.  It looks to stay nice through the holiday and into the weekend.  By Sunday, a trough approaches the west coast.  The weather looks to turn active into next week but details right now are hard to get as models are not in total agreement.  It does, however, look as we'll get more snow as we start December.
