Snow Showers thru the Weekend

Summary:

Lingering low pressure in the area will bring snow showers at times through this weekend. We will dry out with a ridge building to our east. Right now it looks difficult for Pacific systems to have much success making it to Utah through the first week of December.

Details:

Yesterday was a fun day for getting a little bit of powder in the Wasatch before feasting afterward. More snow showers will be likely through the weekend as lingering low pressure spins in the Great Basin before finally being ejected east late on Sunday.

Right now it looks like the best periods for snow showers will be tonight into Saturday morning with a little bit of wrap around. Then again on Sunday as the low moves eastward and a more typical northwest flow remains in its wake. Accumulation should generally be light, but its certainly possible for some areas to get a quick few inches if they get under a decent band of moisture.

Long range:

Ridging is going to set up to our north and east as we head into next week. At the same time, a trough off the west coast will form. This trough will send a system or two into the west coast next week. Unfortunately, it looks like these troughs will weaken as they encounter the high pressure ridging, so at best, we'll be see only a few leftovers. As mentioned yesterday, there are indications of storms having better luck progressing east by the second week of December.

Important to be patient right now. We are undergoing a major transition as we move into winter. The jet stream will be strengthening over the next few weeks and El Nino effects will become more pronounced. Hopefully that will mean frequent stronger storms at some point.
