Weekend Snow continues

Summary:

Cold with snow showers will continue today (Saturday) into Sunday.  The flow will turn northwest on Sunday afternoon which will allow for orographic enhancement of snowfall for the Cottonwoods.  A break in the weather for the upcoming week.

Details:

Low pressure is still lingering over the area.  Right now it is feed moisture into the region in a moist easterly flow.  You can see this well on the below infrared loop:

This is creating light snow over much of the Wasatch this morning.  Several resorts reporting an inch or two overnight with continued light fluffy snow.  Check out Snowbird on this fine morning:

Nothing too deep, obviously, but should make for some nice turns today.

These snow showers will continue at times into tonight with light accumulations.  On Sunday, the low will finally start to move east and this will cause the flow shift to out of the northwest.  As we know, a northwest flow will get orographic benefits in places like the Cottonwoods.  So a period of heavier snowfall during Sunday afternoon and evening is certainly possible.  May want to keep your eye on last chair Sunday or first chair Monday...

The upcoming week looks dry from Monday thru Thursday with warmer temps.  An approaching trough will impact Northern California and try to move across the Great Basin late Thursday (Dec 3).  Right now it looks like high pressure will significantly weaken and split this trough as it does so.  We could still get some snow showers out of it on Friday, but it certainly does not appear to be anything significant at this time.
