Feliz Cumple-inches!

Summary

Our storm is departing and leaving behind cold air and fresh snow in its wake. High pressure takes control and we will see mostly clear conditions in the high elevations with valley inversions. No snow in the forecast for now.

Short Term Forecast

Mother Nature and Ullr delivered the only birthday gift I asked for today -- SNOW! No need to wish me a happy birthday, rather we should all be thanking our snow overlords for the bounty which they have finally bestowed on us. My reaction when I logged onto the computer today and first checked snow reports:

The forecast if you remember was 3-6" with 6-12" by areas favored by the NW flow.  LCC is the most famously favored area in this regime and no surprise they pulled the white rabbit out of the hat with 13" reported at Alta and 11" at Snowbird.  Solitude reporting 7", their sensor up top showing 8".  Brighton is reporting 11".   On the PC side, 5-6" seems to be the norm for PC/DV.  Other resorts are harder to get a read since they are not open and thus not reporting.  Snowbasin midbowl sensor is showing 14" increase in snow depth, so they my have gotten hammered but it's hard to verify.  Any reports from Snowbasin/PowMow would be appreciated.  Yesterday, I also mentioned that the Bear River Range should do well.  Well they seem to be the biggest winner -- including Beaver Mountain.  Tony Grove Lake showing 26 INCHES of new snow!  Can't wait for some photos from up there! They've been winning this entire season thus far and have by far the deepest snowpack in the state right now.

Snow showers are lingering this morning in a few areas, particularly the Cottonwoods where orographics and a touch of lake enhancement will keep things going for a bit longer but then we should dwindle down later today.  Cold temps will hang around for a couple days so snowmaking should be going full blast to prepare us for what's to come.

Extended Forecast

The long-range is nothing but ridging starting tomorrow and lasting as far as our models can see.  At least through mid-month and probably a bit longer.  Hopefully things change before the holidays.  That means no snow, warmer than average temps,  and very stronger inversions in the valleys (especially in the areas that received snow today).  There are signs that the Pacific will be loading itself up to try to break down this ridge eventually.  We'll watch for signs of that in the coming days.  Whatever rituals you guys did to get this last storm into the area, keeping doing it!
