Snow, Ridge, Snow

Summary

Snow showers in Northern Utah this morning as a weak system brushes Northern Utah. Clear, sunny and warm this weekend into MLK Day. Storms to return middle of next week.

Short Term Forecast

Snow showers yesterday and last night have generally been light but we've seen many resorts reporting 2-3" in Northern Utah, including all Cottonwood resorts, PC, PowMow.   Beaver Mountain on the Idaho border seems to be doing the best. They reported 4" but something tells me it's actually deeper than that....  Tony Grove Lake showing 7" of new snow since yesterday afternoon and the Logan Canyon Summit cam shows good things happening up there....

I think today is going to be quite the day up there... may just make a jaunt north myself.

Additional snow showers this morning could add another inch or two.  Should be enough to soften things up for a fun day!

Break this weekend with sunny skies and warmer conditions.... #BORING

Pattern starts to change next week with a large-scale synoptic trough nosing into the region.  The first storm will try to break down the ridge late Tuesday into Wednesday but should lose most of its energy -- could still see some light snow midweek.  A second storm should do a better job knocking down the ridge later in the week (around Friday).  This is when we could see some better snow.  You can see ridge being displaced here:

Storm will then roll over us dropping some snow... Models currently showing moderate storm totals... these are subject to change as we are still a week away...

Extended Forecast

Looks like the trough hangs over us through most of the end of January according to current forecasts.  Another storm will drop down off the California coast around the 21st then slowly track inland.  Could give us another shot for snow.  Hopefully we continue to see chances for snow thru the end of the month.  No guarantees at this point... but it's certainly far better than a ridge... As I've been saying, the storm door will be open... Now all we need is for something good to stroll thru the door.
