Breckenridge and Keystone Resorts Announce Updates to the Start of the 2016-2017 Season

Update at 11:30 a.m. MST - 11/9/2016: Keystone Resort announced that it will now open for the season on Friday, November 18th, with Breckenridge Ski Resort opening soonthereafter. Original update below.

Breckenridge and Keystone Ski Resorts have announced the decision to delay both resort's opening days, which were originally schedued for Friday, November 11th. According to the latest update, both Breckenridge and Keystone will announce a new opening day as soon as resort officials feel confident they can open with a high-quality snow surface.

"Snowmaking teams at both resorts have been hard at work getting ready for opening," said Breckenridge’s chief operating officer John Buhler. "Cold temperatures allowed both resorts to make snow last night, and we will continue to take advantage of temperatures conducive to our snowmaking and get the resorts open as soon as we can."

"We are dedicated to providing our guests with the best early-season conditions possible and will continue to focus our efforts on opening with a great ski and ride experience," added Keystone’s Chief Operating Officer Mike Goar. "We will let our guests know as soon as we have a new opening day for both resorts."

As I've wrote in the I-70 Daily Snow, it's not all doom and gloom. We should finally see the door open for stronger storms across the western US around November 18th. This doesn't mean that we're guaranteed for a big storm but I'm confident we'll see some solid action during the second half of November.
