State of the West

Below we have the current snow depths and snowpack percentage compared to normal as given by SNOTEL sites across the Western United States.

SNOTEL is an automated system of snowpack and related climate sensors operated by the National Resource Conservation Service. The data begins on 10/1/2013 as this is the beginning of the water year.

An interesting piece of data to note is the dramatic increase in the snow depth across the Northwest since the beginning of February. Also, take notice of the snow depth explosions at Vail Mountain on January 31st and at Heavenly on February 9th. Vail reported 21 inches that morning and the SNOTEL site does a fantastic job of giving us a clear visual of this epic powder day.
