Storms in the Pipe

Summary

Last weekend's storms setting up some of the best early season conditions in recent memory, totalling two feet of snow on the AZSB and a bit less for Sunrise. Another storm headed into the region late this week will deliver some more snow, though the focus will be into the White Mountains. Over the next couple of weeks, the southern branch of the Pacific storm track stays fairly active though Arizona not appearing in the sweet spot.

Short Term Forecast

A brief return to mild temperatures are set for Wednesday before the next storm moves into the region, delivering more snow. The storm will be set up off Southern California Thursday pinwheeling moisture over the State, then dives into Mexico Friday. This is not a great setup for snow production over the SF Peaks, though the White Mountains look to fair much better. Snow showers will get going through the day Thursday with little accumulation initially. Thursday night into Friday look to be the peak times for snow. I'm expecting 2-5" on Snowbowl with a foot for Sunrise. Bluebird conditions will follow for the weekend with mild temperatures.

Extended Forecast

Several storms chances will occur over the next couple of weeks. Next storms to keep an eye on beyond this Thursday and Friday are 12/12, 15, and 19. None appear overly exciting at the moment. Here is a look at current model snowfall for Arizona through 19th.
