Here we GO! Lake Louise & Mt. Norquay to OPEN Friday November 5th!

Summary

Wish we had more natural snow on the ground, but temps have allowed for aggressive snowmaking to open a few lower trails at Norquay and the Glacier chair at Louise. Like last year, these are the first resorts to open in Canada. A westerly flow will bring a few weak systems Friday evening through this weekend with light accumulations (optimistically) up to 10cm possible.

Short Term Forecast

Friday: A nice day to shake the legs out! A mix of sun and clouds with afternoon highs at 2500m of 0 to -3C. Light west winds to 15 kph. Flurries possible by last chair…

Saturday: A weak disturbance moves in Friday evening with light accumulations, 60% possible of 3 to 5cm. Saturday looks to be mainly cloudy with a stray sunny spell here and there. A slight chance of isolated flurries as well that could bring a dusting during the day. South winds to 20 kph. Highs at 2500m -1 to -3C.

Sunday: Another weak cold front slides through Saturday evening bringing mainly colder air but also isolated flurries, 40% chance of 2 to 5cm. After morning clouds Sunday, expect a mix of sun and cloud with colder daytime highs in the -4 to -8C range. Winds will be out of the SW to 15 to 25 kph.

Extended Forecast

Extended Forecast:

Looking at the extended weather models the trend of unsettled skies, but no big storms, looks to continue through mid-week. A weak system on Tuesday will bring light snow to the South Rockies with 4 to 8cm possible. For Banff and north, lesser amounts in the 2 to 4cm range likely (2500m). Temps will remain at or slightly below seasonal average through Thursday allowing the snowmakers to work their magic.

Thanks for reading and have fun ripping up those groomers! Think Snow - ULLR is hungry (and thirsty)!!

My next Alberta forecast update will be on Tuesday next week.
