15-20 inch storm totals for the San Juans. The Northwest nabs big numbers in the next 7 days!

Update

The chase is in the San Juan Mountains tonight.  11 inches fell at Wolf Creek today with empty slopes and decent coverage. Some rocks are still popping up just at or below the new snow surface on upper mountain. Don't expect any markings or indication of where they are hiding (Patrol does not mark rock areas). Tread lightly in the Waterfall area and as you get into the Treasure pitches off the top (midway rocks in spots but very navigable). Today rode semi deep and relatively light density with empty chairs.  SW winds lowers my confidence for Telluride,  however some light or moderate snow is likely by Tuesday morning.  Monarch is a wildcard with lower confidence.  Silverton normally scores well with this pattern (SW flow) and reported 6 inches this morning (18 in 48).   My gut tells me it will get even deeper by Tuesday AM.

Below: My drive up Wolf Creek Pass this morning as it was puking powder

Moisture has been steadily streaming north under SW flow pushing into Rifle, Grand Junction, and the Flat Tops north towards Meeker.  Powderhorn Ski area had 7 inches on the snow cam as of 6PM today.  Light to moderate snow is possible in most mountain ranges along I-70 by late tonight.  I am not expecting much more than 2-4 inches with highest amounts South of I-70 (Breckenridge wildcard). Crested Butte may fall in the 3-5 inch range? Most snow will fall west of Glenwood or north.

Long range looks moderately deep in the Cascades and northern Panhandle of WA Wednesday (5-10). We heard there is a nasty crust-ice layer at many mountains in the PNW due to significant warming last week. Thursday will deliver a break with snow redeveloping Friday in the Northwest. The Tetons will score 4-8 inches favoring JHMR under SW flow Wednesday night and Thursday. The temps will be cold keeping quality very good  (Base elevation snow). Once again the Wasatch falls just below the highest moisture amounts falling north of Utah or south.  That skunk hole hopefully ends late this weekend.

Heavier snows will break out over the Pacific Northwest this weekend and migrate over the Rockies late in the period and early next week.  More significant snow is possible for Utah (Fingers crossed).  Medium confidence in most of the Rockies late weekend and early next week.  Very high confidence for the Pacific Northwest, Whistler, and interior BC

Announcements

If you want to HELI in BC, Stellar has a few seats still open on February 21, 22, and 23.   That was as of Sunday so not sure if they are filled. Most outfits are fully booked.  Also, if you want to ride Eagle Pass Heli Skiing near Revy beginning this Friday I know someone trying to sell a 5 day slot.  You can comment on this post if you are interested (Saturday-Tuesday).

Thanks for following the chase forecast
