Light snow through Monday, then a break

Summary

On Friday and Friday night, snow showers continued over the northern mountains with 1-4 inches of accumulation. We should see times of snow continue for this area through Saturday night with another few inches especially well north of I-70. Then we’ll have a break on Sunday with light snow and cold air returning early on Monday morning.

Short Term Forecast

On Friday, snow conditions in the northern mountains remained superb with soft and deep snow leftover from Thursday and some additional snow on Thursday night.

During the day on Friday, most mountains saw little accumulation, then another waved moved through on Friday night and dropped 1-4 inches near and north of I-70. This will keep the snow soft on Saturday morning.

For Saturday, snow showers will stick around the northern mountains favoring Steamboat, Winter Park, Rocky Mountain National Park and Cameron Pass with another 1-3 inches of snow.

On Saturday night the snow will wane with some lingering flurries or light snow showers.

Sunday will be a break with no snow accumulation.

Then a cold front will push through Colorado from north to south on Monday and will deliver light snow.

Accumulations from Monday at midnight through Monday at noon look like this, where the northern mountains could see a few inches.

Then the cold front will push through the southern mountains on Monday afternoon with just light accumulations after 12-noon on Monday.

Total snow from the storm on Monday will be 1-4 inches, so not a significant system and it’ll only be notable for bringing very cold temperatures on Monday night into Tuesday morning (near and colder than 0F).

Extended Forecast

Tuesday through Saturday should be mostly dry for most of the state. Maybe we’ll see some late-week showers sneak in, but overall I expect a quiet rest of the week.

Then models are covering on the timing for the next system, with the best chance for snow around Sunday, February 3rd. It’s still too early to discuss snow amounts – stay tuned.

Thanks for reading!

My next update will be on Sunday morning.

JOEL GRATZ

I will be on the road (skiing!) through February 8th and while I will try to post every day in the morning as usual, occasionally my posts might be a bit shorter or go live at somewhat different times. Thanks for understanding that I need to get my powder fix as well:-)
