Short Term Forecast
I-70 Snow Report
I-70 Travel Conditions
Tuesday - Thursday
Spring is here as temperatures will climb well into the 40s on the mountains from Tuesday through Thursday under partly sunny skies. All road surfaces will remain clear and dry, with travel cruising along at normal speeds.
Thursday PM - Saturday
Our next round of snow will then make its move into the I-70 mountain corridor beginning Thursday night. This storm does not look overly strong so expectations are low regarding our snow totals. Expect light snow to fall through Thursday night, with the best chance for heavier snow coming around midday Friday and into Friday evening.
In total, look for 3-6 inches from Thursday night through Friday, with slightly higher amounts possible if we can get the storm to strengthen as it passes over Colorado. Look for soft turns on Friday afternoon and maybe again on Saturday. Snow could then linger into Saturday but I do not think we'll be looking at additional accumulations.
For travel, wet and slick surfaces will return on Thursday night, followed by icy, slushy, and snow-packed surfaces by midday Friday and into Friday night. This could impact travel speeds on Friday afternoon and evening, especially during the heavier traffic period along westbound I-70 on Friday evening. Wet road surfaces will still be present on Saturday morning but travel should cruise along at normal speeds.
Extended Forecast
Next Week & Beyond
Dry weather returns on Sunday, March 31st and remains in place through Tuesday, April 2nd. We'll likely be looking at partly sunny skies and highs in the 30s on the mountains.
We'll then turn to Wednesday, April 3rd and Thursday, April 4th for another round of snow in the Colorado high country. It's still too early to get into any details but this should provide us with another refresh as we head into the first weekend of April.
As always, keep an eye on our 1-10 day forecasts for every mountain along I-70 and right here for the latest updates.
