This Week
We picked up 1-4 inches for Wednesday morning's reports, with Beaver Creek and Vail leading the charge. Temps are now VERY cold on Wednesday morning as they start below 0°F and likely only creep into the low single-digits through Wednesday afternoon.
As we've been discussing for the past few days, we'll continue to receive off-and-on snow showers over the next few days as cold pules of energy slide over Colorado. This will bring us mostly light snow totals through Friday, followed by a slightly stronger wave that will move into northern Colorado on Friday night.
We'll be right on the southern edge of the best snow potential so we'll see if we can get lucky and have the wave move just enough to the south to fire up heavier snowfall rates through Saturday. If not, Steamboat and areas right along the Wyoming/Colorado border will be the main target.
The only other item to note for the next few days is single-digit temps continuing into Thursday ahead of a slight warmup from Friday through Sunday. Look for daytime highs in the teens to low 20s each day.
Travel Forecast
A mix of slick and snowy road surfaces will be encountered through the upcoming weekend as very cold temps and off-and-on (mostly) light snow falls along I-70. Travel impacts should be minor each day but plan to give yourself extra travel time.
We'll then be watching for icy and snow-packed road surfaces to return, along with more difficult travel conditions, from roughly Monday, January 30 through Wednesday, February 1 as a stronger storm slides across Colorado.
Extended Forecast
Next Week & Beyond
We could receive a slight break in the weather on Sunday ahead of a slightly stronger storm that will push into the Intermountain West and slide across Colorado from Monday, January 30 through Wednesday, February 1. Southern Colorado could be favored for this storm but we'll see how it trends as we get closer.
Looking further ahead, there's starting to be decent agreement that we could receive at least a few days of dry weather from Thursday, February 2 through the weekend of February 4/5. There are then signs for "something" around February 8.
